The Coronet Motor Hotel opened in 1962.

Top bands came to the Coronet's third-floor concert hall — Grand Funk Railroad, Johnny Winter and Kim Mitchell, to name a few. Today the building holds the Staebler Place business centre.

Remembered by Paul Wilson of Kitchener as “one of the best watering holes” of days gone by.

“They’d have bands playing six nights a week upstairs, dancers on one floor and pool tables on another. Rarely did you go there and not bump into someone you knew.”

Howard Bonnell knew the Coronet well because he owned and operated part of the upstairs sound system used by visiting bands until the nightclub relocated in 1987. In the earlier years bands had to haul their sound equipment up three flights of stairs.
