Barking Dog Music 007 (Fusion III)

Over the past few years, the former metal queen has turned her back on her past and embraced an even earlier era as a member of the Vancouver jazz scene. This is Aaron's first album in the genre, but you wouldn't know it. She breezes through this collection of 12 standards and originals like a woman who cut her teeth on the cocktail circuit. He Ain't Got Rhythm is an upbeat, swinging number sung with a light-hearted enthusiasm, while you can envision the knowing wink in Aaron's eye as she draws you into Doodlin'. Evil Gal Blues is the bluesiest song on the album, and Chaser For The Blues, Teach Me Tonight and Small Day Tomorrow show she knows her way around smoky ballads. Pianist/collaborator/producer Jane Milliken shines on the keys, and the rest of Aaron's live band, The Swingin' Barflies, proves that it can cut it in the studio as well.
